When traveling abroad, you always need to have the EHIC with you. If you do not, you may be asked to pay. The EHIC is not applicable in case of rescue and repatriation.  Healthcare provided by private Hospitals or Clinics is not covered by EHIC. Pre-existing medical conditions are also excluded from this coverage. The most comprehensive solution against sudden illness or accident while abroad is a combination of EHIC and Travel Insurance.

Yes, it is necessary to have this type of insurance before you actually travel. In fact, in some countries it is even necessary for obtaining a visa.

In the event of issuing any incorrect information and data on the Policy Schedule, this maybe corrected with an alteration. The alteration may be completed for any information that do not affect the premium. In the event that the premium is affected then a new policy will be issued in substitution of the existing one.

Should you wish to cancel your policy, you need to submit a written notification within 14 days from the policy issue date, then you may be fully refunded the premium paid unless a claim was raised. In case of bank transfer, the bank charges burden the insured.

It is very important to read the policy documents to know if such a situation arises. Prior approval is required in most cases, although there may be exceptions depending on the emergency.

If during your trip, you come across any difficulty you may contact the Assistance Company which will provide you guidance 24/7. The contact details phone number and email address are stated on your policy schedule. 

A third-party assistant (TPA) works as a representative of the insurance company which provides claims services. Therefore, it is necessary to have the contact details (phone number, email, etc.) and any other details of the Assistance Company as it will be your contact point should any unexpected situations occur during your trip.
